Enrollment

Students may enroll directly at the school or online by following the digitally assisted procedure.

Student Visas

If applying for a student visa, Italian law requires that study represent the primary activity during the stay in Italy. For this reason, the courses must commit the students to a minimum of 4h/day (20h/week or 80h/month) of study, every day from Monday to Friday. Along with other considerations, such as demonstrating legal title (ownership) and solidity of bank accounts, the advance payment of the course forms an integral part of the evaluation of the financial capabilities of the student when the designated Italian consular authorities issue visas. For this reason, the Accademia di Italiano issues the scholastic documents of enrollment only after having received the payment for the entire cost of the course.

For security purposes, the original documents are delivered directly to the student or to a person designated by him or her, or are sent directly by express air courier to his or her address in the country of origin. The shipping costs are at the expense of the student.

The list of legal requirements and documents for the issue of a student visa is available on the site for Accademia di Italiano. Nevertheless, all students are asked to personally check the documents specifically required for their respective Consulate, since every single office may reserve the right to apply additional rules or to act according to particular directives, perhaps temporarily, by the Foreign Ministry.

Payments

Payment for the courses must always be made in advance, on penalty of annulling the enrollment. The payment must be net of any eventual bank charges or fees. The Accademia di Italiano reserves the right to request the reimbursement of any such fees or charges.

Housing/Accommodation

Accademia di Italiano offers its students the opportunity to use housing only upon request and only during the time they are enrolled in one of our courses. The school acts solely as an intermediary between the owners of the accommodation and the students. Therefore, it is not to be held responsible to either party.

Accommodation in a family home, in apartments shared with other students or in a studio or one bedroom apartment runs from Sunday to Saturday. A booking for a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 4 weeks (according to the type requested) may be made through the school. Any additional time must be booked two weeks prior to the end of the previous booking and must be paid directly to the owner of the accommodation.

Eventual changes in accommodation or requests for changes in accommodation must be communicated to the school with at least 2 weeks’ notice.

Reservations for housing are to be understood as confirmed under the following conditions:

  • For courses with a length of up to 4 weeks, the school must receive payment of the reservation fee and the total cost of housing 15 days prior to the start of the course
  • For courses with a length greater than 4 weeks, the school must receive payment of the reservation fee and the cost of 4 weeks of housing 15 days prior to the start of the course
  • The expected time of arrival must be communicated to the school with at least 7 days’ notice

Cancellations and changes in the course

Eventual cancellations for enrollment in group courses must be communicated to the school by email before the start of the course and in no case do they grant the right to the reimbursement of the registration fee and 25% of the cost of the instruction. Payments received will be refunded as follows:

  • In the case of a cancellation communicated to the school up to 15 days prior to the start of the course, the student will be refunded 75% of the cost of instruction fees, if paid, and the eventual cost of the housing paid, minus the equivalent of one weeks’ stay
  • In the case of a cancellation communicated less than 15 days prior to the start of the course, the student will be refunded 75% of the cost of instruction fees, if paid, minus the equivalent of one week course instruction, and the eventual cost of housing minus the equivalent of two weeks’ stay
  • In the case of a cancellation received after the start of the course, no refund will be given
  • If no official cancellation is made or if the student fails to appear, no refund will be given

If a request for a student visa to attend a course at Accademia di Italiano is refused, the school must be immediately informed by email and must receive a scan of the document denying the visa issued by the competent consular authority. After this, the original registration documents must be returned to the school by express air courier. Only when both of these conditions are met can the received amounts be refunded as follows:

  • If the notification of the denial of the student visa is communicated to the school 7 days prior to the start of the course, a refund of the entire amount paid minus €300 for administration costs, the visa documents fee, eventual active costs sustained by the school on behalf of the student (preparation and shipping of documents, health insurance, etc.) and the equivalent of 2 weeks of housing if booked through the school
  • If the notification of the denial of the student visa is communicated to the school less than 7 days before the start of the course, no refund will be given

No refund will be granted if the student intends to reduce or modify the number of hours of attendance of the course for which they received a student visa, if they begin the course or a lesson late, if they are absent or abandon the course. The type of course booked may be changed only with the consent of Accademia di Italiano, following the payment of €100.00 for administrative costs. In no case does a change in the type of course give the right to a reimbursement. It is absolutely not possible to convert a group course into individual lessons.
The legal ownership of an enrollment in a course is individual and may be transferred to another student only with the consent of Accademia di Italiano and following the payment of €200.00 for administrative costs.
Accademia di Italiano reserves the right to cancel group courses and to offer alternatives in the case of courses with a number of students less than 4.

Eventual cancellations of individual lessons do not incur the loss of the lesson as long as they are communicated with at least 24 hours’ notice during the week or of at least one working day for lessons on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
The number of cancellations of individual lessons cannot exceed 30% of the total of lessons booked.

Minimum Age

18 years old.

Transportation service to/from the airport

Arrival information (airport, flight number, flight origin, time of arrival) must be communicated to the school at the same time as the enrollment, and in any case with at least 2 weeks’ notice.

Duration of the lessons

The duration of lessons is 45 minutes (an academic hour) or multiples of 45 minutes.

Students are required to attend lessons with regularity, respecting the scheduled times and the rules of the school.
Students enrolled in long-term courses (from 16 to 48 weeks) can be absent for a maximum of 2 weeks. These 2 weeks may be made up without additional cost by giving at least two weeks’ notice. All courses include an interruption of 2 weeks for Christmas and one week in August.

Normally the number of participants per class is between 4 and 12, with an average of 8 to 10.
The Accademia di Italiano is committed to doing all it can to place students in the courses and at the times that the students prefer. Nevertheless, it cannot give a guarantee without having first examined the result of the initial level test.
If the minimum number of 4 students to form a class is not met, the Accademia di Italiano may offer the option of taking another course of equal value.

In the occasion of public and religious holidays, the school is closed. Should this cause damage to a student, the Accademia di Italiano is committed to offering just compensation.

Legal responsibility

The Accademia di Italiano is not to be held legally responsible to students for theft or loss of personal effects which may occur on its premises.

All students are insured by the school for civil liability and against accidents. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended that all students take out, in their country of origin, a health insurance policy and a policy against personal risks, including the loss of payments to the school for any reason, cancellation of arrival and departures, absences or the interruption of the courses for unforeseen circumstances.

The student authorizes the Accademia di Italiano to use their personal information in compliance with the Law 196/2003, which states that these may be kept in an archive. In addition, the student authorizes the Accademia di Italiano to periodically send information and promotional materials about the school and on the services offered. The student may request in any moment that their personal data be removed from the archive.
